All (Hackney Carriage) taxis are fitted with a taxi meter that must be visible to the passenger.
The meter calculates the fare, per mile, based on the distance travelled and any ‘waiting time’ if the taxi stops.
The rate the meter calculates is set by the local council (not the driver!) and the meter must be checked regularly for accuracy.
